Overstock reports $130k Bitcoin orders on first day

CEO of Overstock.com, the online retail giant, tweeted that he was ‘stunned’ to sell $130,000 of merchandise on their first day of accepting Bitcoin – most of which came from new customers.

Based on 2012 figures, it means that Bitcoin based sales accounted for around 4% of daily revenue.

In a separate tweet he stated that the items most purchased by Bitcoin users at Overstock were sheets, mobile phone cases, flash drives, and bath towels.

He also said that the states leading the purchases were California, Texas, Florida and Washington.

The move signals a bright future for Bitcoin amongst online retailers, and with the market growing a 30% per month, he believes that Amazon will be forced to accept Bitcoin at some point soon.
